Hotline Bling Was So Fire, It Started Some of Its Own.

We all knew that the "Hotline Bling" music video was going to be straight fire.  And, as expected, it was.  However, the video also sparked the sale of Drake's apparel, as well as caused some fiery tension between Drake and other artists.  It was so fire, puns were needed.

The video was dropped on Apple Music on October 19th.  Directed by the legendary Director X in collaboration with visual artist James Turrell, it features some beautiful curvacious women at a call center, with Drake dancing in pastel colored rooms.  Leave it to Drake to dance terribly, yet still make everyone (yes, everyone.) swoon.  Apparently bad dancing is the new thing.

We've all seen the video, and we've all seen Drake's dancing.  Whether it was from the actual video, from Vines, or spoofs/memes overpopulating Facebook and Twitter.  In other news, the video and song have had some other great and not-so-great impacts, besides Drake's dancing.

The cherry red jacket Drake was sporting was from a brand called Moncler.  The Moncler Maya "down puffer" is what the brand calls its "iconic style."  The retailer sold twice the amount than usual, says a rep.  The jackets cost around $1,150 – in other words, if you're a retailer trying to make double the amount of cash you usually do, hit up Drake and he can dance in it.  Throughout the rest of the video, Drake also wore an Acne turtleneck, as well as varoius OVO sweatshirts.  (Read the rest of the story here.)

If you thought Hotline Bling sounded vaguely familiar when you first heard it, it's probably because you actually have heard a similar background melody before.  The melody is also used in D.R.A.M.'s hit song, "Cha Cha," which he dubbed from a Super Mario game.  Drake dubbed his melody from Timmy Thomas' "Why Can't We Live Together."  The similar chord progressions made D.R.A.M. rather salty, as he tweeted "I feel like I got jacked for my record."  Both Drake and Erykah Badu, who made a remix of "Hotline Bling," responded to D.R.A.M.'s tweet in an interview with Fader.  Erykah says how everyone loved "Cha Cha," and the music of it inspired both Drake and herself.

Both "Hotline Bling" and "Cha Cha" are catchy, bright hits that face zero competition.  They're both straight fire.
